Interested In Joining?

What if I don’t have time to join another organization; why should I join the Knights of Columbus?
As a Knight you can choose the projects with which you wish to be involved. Most projects and events are at the local council level which is generally just at the parish. When you join the Order you gain access to the many benefits it offers. From insurance to scholarships to service and social activities and programs, all are open to the whole family.

What are the requirements?
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practical Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church.

Where can I see what you have done recently?
The best way is to check our News Page and add our RSS feed to your reader. You can also follow us on five social media platforms (and hopefully like all our posts and share them with your friends). The links are in the sidebar.

What are the Degrees?
There are four degrees within the Knights of Columbus. Each degree ceremony imparts a lesson on the Order’s core virtues of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The first three are now done by watching video on a website, usually soon after you join. The Patriotism degree ceremony is a formal in-person event that usually includes a dinner. It is done with the other councils in the state.

Do I have to purchase Insurance to become a member?
No. You do not need to purchase insurance to be a member. In the Knights of Columbus, a man has to be a member before he may get the insurance benefit. Once you become a member life insurance and long-term care insurance are available.

What does it cost?
After your free first year, annual dues are $50 (cash) or $51.80 (credit card) which includes the local council, state council and supreme parts.

How do I join?
Right now joining is free for your first year. Fill out this form on the Knights of Columbus supreme website. Use the code “wmundy” for the agent code to get the free first year. When asked, the local council number is 1129. We will be in contact with you, but feel free to email us to let us know that you joined.

New Members

When and how do I receive my membership card, badge and rosary?
The financial secretary, Buck, usually distributes the cards at the monthly meetings. The badges are ordered once you are officially on the roster and takes about 30 days to deliver to the monthly meeting. If you do not receive a card or badge please notify the grand knight and/or financial secretary

What are these food handler cards and how do I get one so I can work in the events at the church?
Visit our Training Page for information about the certifications for preparing and serving food and alcohol.

Where do I pay my dues?
The best place is in person at a meeting. If you can not make a meeting, you can pay on the dues page.

How do I meet other Knights after joining?
Every month we have a social hangout on the first Wednesday usually at the Boneyard in town. On the second Wednesday we have our business meeting in the church hall.

Can I attend the state mid year meetings and state conventions?
Yes and it is encouraged that you attend to grow as a leader in the council and get an overview of this large organization.

Do I have to attend every meeting because I travel a lot?
Meetings are conducted with a zoom invitation for those who travel and want to keep in touch with the momentum of the council’s activities.

I have limited time to volunteer can I still contribute?
Yes no knight is required to volunteer on any events, however, the rewards of doing so are plentiful.

What is “Supreme”?
That is the worldwide organization of the Knights of Columbus (KofC.org). It is above all the state councils, which include other countries now.
